Yabby Dam Pinot Noir 2024

$20.00$110.00

The surname of Conte emerged in Italy around the 8th century. Born in 1910, Antonino Conte owned commercial vineyards in his hometown of Sassinoro, 3hrs drive south of Rome. Since arriving in McLaren Vale with his family in 1953, this enduring and venerable tradition has continued.

The ‘Yabby Dam’, just upstream from the Pinot vineyard planted by the Conte family in 1980, fills during the winter months. The Yabby (Cherax destructor) is a freshwater crayfish native to South  Australia, growing to 25cm. To survive, they burrow into the mud of the drying dam bottom, until the next good rain.

This Pinot Noir has a complex and saturating profile of red berries, sweet spices and subtle earthy undertones, enhanced by French oak maturation. The slightly fuller bodied style reflects the ripe McLaren Vale red tradition.

Vinification
Made using family owned & managed vineyards, and crafted by winemaker Danial Conte, using small batch minimal intervention techniques. Harvested cool. semi crushed, open fermented, and matured with medium toast French oak integration.
